Inspiration from Asia

I went in to my ART 101's teacher's office hours today to talk about the project I'm working on for that class and somehow we ended up talking a lot more about Asian art and Western iconography than the project!  Which is okay, because he introduced me to some seriously neat stuff, one of them being another Japanese artist named Konoike Tomoko.  She does work in a variety of media both 2-D and 3-D and it's all very eye-catching.  Sadly there aren't a great variety of her works online but here are a few.  The top image is a sculpture, the mountain one is on a series of wall panels, and the other two are traditional-medium illustrations.

I'm on an Eastern kick...first Miyazaki and now this!  It makes me sort of sad because my art history class this semester only covers Western art.  I guess I'll simply have to take an Eastern art history class as one of my HA electives!
